KS2 Geography

geog1Key Stage 2:

Course content:
At Key Stage 2 students will be introduced to Geographical concepts and skills. Students will have access to a wide range of topics which will stimulate their wider local and global knowledge.

Year 5:
In year 5 students study a number of different topics to allow them to build on their geographical knowledge from Lower School and to start preparing them for KS3 Geography. The topics follow the National Curriculum and students study a range of physical and human geography concepts.
Year 5 Geography Curriculum

Year 6:
Year 6 students will begin the year looking at their Personal Geography, a small project to get students to think about their connections to the world.  This first unit will also re-visit and build on some mapping skills taught in Year 5.  This is also the opportunity of visiting The Living Rainforest during the year.

Assessments

Students across all year groups will be assessed in geography through various means including, essay style questions, tests, stories and classwork. There will be an emphasis on SPAG in all year groups and in particular the use of geographical vocabulary and using capital letters for places.

 

KS3/KS4 Geography

Year 7
In year 7 students build of the units studied at KS2. They start by completing a country study on Africa. They will then study Coasts and the conflicts local people have over their management. They will also look at the World’s energy and glaciation.
Year 7 Geography Curriculum

Year 8
In year 8 students start to think more world wide. The skills they will be taught will allow them to think outside of the UK and consider others. The units taught are Superpower Nations, Weather and Climate and International Development.
Year 8 Geography Curriculum

Year 9
In year 9 students are preparing for more for the year 9 curriculum will help students learn skills that will be helpful for GCSE geography.  The units taught are Geography of Conflict, Population and Urbanisation and The World of Work.

Fieldwork opportunities
Where possible fieldwork activities will be offered to students to help bring the subject alive. This may be local or further afield.

The department is now registered with the Royal Geographic Society and the Geographical Association, which brings with it exciting opportunities at all Key Stages.
