In year 7 students build of the units studied at KS2. They start by completing a country study on Africa. They will then study Coasts and the conflicts local people have over their management. They will also look at the World’s energy and glaciation.
Year 7 Geography Curriculum
In year 8 students start to think more world wide. The skills they will be taught will allow them to think outside of the UK and consider others. The units taught are Superpower Nations, Weather and Climate and International Development.
Year 8 Geography Curriculum
In year 9 students are preparing for more for the year 9 curriculum will help students learn skills that will be helpful for GCSE geography. The units taught are Geography of Conflict, Population and Urbanisation and The World of Work.
Year 9 Geography Curriculum
Students across all year groups will be assessed in geography through various means including, essay style questions, tests, stories and classwork. There will be an emphasis on SPAG in all year groups and in particular the use of geographical vocabulary and using capital letters for places.
Where possible fieldwork activities will be offered to students to help bring the subject alive. This may be local or further afield.
The department is now registered with the Royal Geographic Society and the Geographical Association, which brings with it exciting opportunities at all Key Stages.
