Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Priory Academy has been licensed to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme since 1 June 2015.  This is the world’s leading youth achievement award, giving millions of 14 to 24 year olds the opportunity to be the very best they can be.

The aim is to provide a balanced programme of activities that develops the whole person – mind, body and soul – in an environment of social interaction and team working.  We have now seen the first enrolments at Bronze level and these students are working hard to complete their four different types of activity:

  • Volunteering: to undertake service to individuals or the community for 3 months*.  This develops compassion, commitment and the confidence to make a difference.
  • Physical: to improve in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities for 3 months*.  This develops fitness, enjoyment and, depending on the activity, teamwork.
  • Skills: to develop practical and social skills and personal interests for 3 months*.  This helps young people to realise their unique potential and gain greater self-esteem.
  • Expedition: plan, train for, and complete an adventurous journey in the Chiltern Hills with our APP, A-Z Expeditions. This develops teamwork and leadership, and challenges young people to push themselves beyond their expectations. There is a practice expedition beforehand.

*One of these activities must last for a period of 6 months.
