RE / Religious Studies
Religious Education is an important and exciting subject. It gives children the opportunity to learn more about themselves and others around them. Children throughout their study at Priory Academy will cover a wide range of ethical/moral issues as well as religions, philosophical ideas and big questions like:
Is there life after death? Why are we here? Does God exist? Does life have a meaning? Can war ever be justified?
The RE Department believe the curriculum is demanding and varied allowing the students to find in their learning plenty of material to fascinate and stimulate, much to think about creatively and deeply, some challenges to each person to play their part in a better community and the chance to explore spirituality for themselves.
Key Stage 3
In Year 7 students study Jesus and Christianity, God and evil and death. The level at which the students are taught is closely matched to their Key Stage 2 teacher assessment consolidating and extending where applicable.
In Year 8/9 we build upon the children’s existing understanding of religion and the world. They are expected to be able to use sources and quotes to support their arguments and beliefs. The topics studied this year are what guides our lives, Buddhism, drugs and crime and punishment.
