House System
At Priory Academy, our House System is at the heart of school life, bringing students together across year groups to build community, celebrate achievement, and encourage teamwork. Every student and member of staff belongs to one of our four houses and they all represent a part of Dunstable and the local area:
Beacon – Named after Ivinghoe Beacon of the nearby Chiltern hills. It represents guidance and aspiration, like a shining light leading the way.
Grove – Named after the Grove House Gardens/Grove Theatre of Dunstable. Symbolising growth, and creativity.
Rushmere – Named after Rushmere Country Park. Reflecting calm strength and perseverance.
Pascombe – Named after Pascombe Pit. One of the historical sites at Dunstable Downs. Standing for heritage, pride and belonging, rooted in the local history of the area.
The House System runs throughout the academic year, creating opportunities for students to showcase their talents beyond the classroom. Houses compete in a wide variety of activities, from sporting tournaments and performing arts competitions to academic challenges, charity events, and community projects.
Points are awarded for participation, effort, and achievement, with the overall winner receiving the coveted House Cup at the end of the year.
Above all, the House System fosters friendly competition, school spirit, and a sense of identity and pride, encouraging every student to contribute their strengths and work towards shared success.
